How it is done
The method depends on the person or business being served and the court's rules. Your server follows Georgia's rules for the papers you send.
Who
Civil process in Georgia is served by sheriffs, marshals and permanent (court-appointed) process servers, and also by certified process servers who meet the criteria of O.C.G.A. § 9-11-4.1. Judicial Council of Georgia, Certified Process Server Program Rules (Dec. 2024), Art. 1–2 ↗
A certified process server must be at least 18, a U.S. citizen, and free of disqualifying convictions such as a felony or impersonating a peace officer. The application is filed with a county sheriff, and certification lasts three years. Judicial Council of Georgia, Certified Process Server Program Rules (Dec. 2024) (O.C.G.A. § 9-11-4.1) ↗
