How it is done
Except as otherwise provided, process in a civil action is served by leaving a true and attested copy, including the complaint, with the defendant or at the defendant's usual place of abode in Connecticut. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 52-57(a) ↗
The statute names who receives process for each kind of defendant, for example a town's clerk, assistant clerk, manager or a selectman. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 52-57(b) ↗
Who
All process is directed to a state marshal, a constable or another proper officer authorized by statute, or to an indifferent person only where a statute authorizes it. An indifferent person who knowingly serves process without that authority commits a class A misdemeanor. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 52-50 ↗

Proof
Return of process. The serving officer's return accompanies the process, which must be returned to the clerk at least six days before the return day in most Superior Court actions. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 52-46a ↗
